Bolland Gardening Club

About the Club

Bolland isn’t a misspelling, it’s the ancient name of this area of the Ribble Valley!

We meet at Bolton by Bowland Village Hall, near Clitheroe at 7.30pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, except in the Summer months, when we go on garden themed outings.

Our members come not just from the village, but from various towns and villages all around the Ribble Valley as well as further afield and are a mix of seasoned gardeners and those wanting to learn more; young and not so young!

In August we hold our annual flower and vegetable show, which is open to entries from club members and their children, Bolton by Bowland parishioners and those from adjoining parishes, and pupils from the village school.

New members and visitors are always welcome to come to our meetings, we have a talk by a visiting speaker followed by tea and delicious cakes and biscuits!

Occasionally we have a visit by a ‘Celebrity’ speaker, in 2013 Christine Walkden came to speak to us, Chris Beardshaw gave us a fantastic talk on ‘The History of Gardens’ in 2016, and in December 2019 Adam Frost spoke to us about ‘My Gardening Journey and Approach to Planting Design”, which was another memorable “sellout” evening.

Current membership is £20 per annum and £3 per meeting for visitors.
